Adams State celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month (09-11-08)

Adams State College celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a diversity of events through October 15.

Events include a performance by Una Tarde Con El Mariachi, sponsored by Adobe de Oro at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 13, in Richardson Hall Auditorium; and a weaving exhibit by Carlos Atencio from September 15 through October 15 in the Luther Bean Museum, with a closing reception from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Stories by Julie Herrera, and the film, "Real Women Have Curves," begins at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, in the Loft, located on the second floor of the Student Union Building.

The celebration continues in October with a Dia de los Muertos Exhibit, sponsored by El Parnaso at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, in the Multi Cultural Center in the Student Union Building, the exhibit will remain on display through October 9. Miguel Chaparro speaking on the history of Dia de los Muertos; Sandra Santa Cruz presenting the life of Sor Juana Inez de La Cruz, and a showing of the film, "Yo, La Peop de Todas," starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, in the Multi Cultural Center.

A performance by Guatemalan Dancers begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, in Richardson Hall Auditorium, a presentation by Dr. Sheryl Ludwig and a dance performance by Semillas de la Tierra completes the evening. Speaker, Monica A. Garcia Pleiman, and a Latin dance presentation starts at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, in Carson Auditorium.

Sponsors include the Office of the Provost, ASC Community Partnerships, and the Hispanic Heritage Committee.
